Toslima works in a big garment factory. There are more than five hundred workers in the factory. One day as usual she was busy with her work. Suddenly a word came to her ear that there was a break out of fire from the short circuit. As ill news runs fast, the news spread very fast among the workers. But no one noticed whether there was actually any fire. Panic seized all.The garment workers could not decide on what to do. They thought that they would face death. Being fearful, they lost the sense of right or wrong. So there was a hue and cry. All began to rush to the ground floor using narrow stair. Everyone tried to go first but nobody could do so. Consequently some weak workers fell on the stair and had severe injuries. Those who tried to jump to the ground broke their legs. Actually, it was an ill news. It was a mere rumour.

Kamrul comes of an extremely poor family. He has come to Dhaka with his family in quest of a living. His parents and his elder brother do some odd jobs and he collects waste materials to sell them for money. In this way, he helps his struggling family. One day, he was sifting garbage near Kamalapur Railway Station. Suddenly, he saw a chunk of gold in the garbage. He could not understand the value of the precious metal at first. So, he was not so interested in it.But before leaving the place, he took the metal to his home. He showed to his parents the lump of gold kept in a basket. His parents were overwhelmed with joy. They went to a local goldsmith and examined the metal. Later, they came to know that it was the precious gold metal. Their joy knew no bounds. They sold the gold to a reputed jewellery house. With the money, they bought a house at the outskirts of the capital city and began to run a business. They shed their days of sorrows and distress. They got relief from the spectre of poverty and began to lead a happy life.

Once a boy named Rakib was coming home from his school on foot. Suddenly, he noticed a money bag lying beside the road. He thought for a while. He picked up the bag and opened it. He found a good number of 500 taka notes in it.He became surprised. He could not understand what to do. After a while, he set up his mind. He did not count the notes, rather he rushed towards the police station which was near the spot. He informed the police officer of everything. The police officer opened the bag and found a cell number there. He talked to the person who lost the money bag. The man came to the police station. He became happy when he got back the money. Rakib was awarded was awarded by the man.

King Solomon was the wisest man of all times. He was called ‘Solomon, the wise’. One of his contemporaries was the Queen of Sheba. She heard Solomon’s name many times for his outstanding knowledge. She was very inquisitive to test his wit. One day, the queen invited the king to her palace. Solomon accepted her invitation.The king came to her palace in due time. The queen welcomed him majestically. The queen kept two bouquests on a table in the room where the king sat. But the door and the windows of the room were closed. One of the garlands was artificial. But the garlands looked quite alike. The king realised that the queen might test his wit. He heard some bees humming on the garland of real flowers. The Queen of Sheba was charmed by his wisdom.

A long time ago, the town of Hamelin in Germany was faced with a great problem. It became full of rats. The rats were so big and fierce that they fought the dogs, killed the can and bit the babies. At last the people came to the Town Hall and said the Mayor to do something. But the Mayor didn’t know what to do.At that moment a piper came there and said, “People call me pied piper. If you pay me a thousand guilders, I will rid your town of rats.” “All right, I will pay you sum,” said the Mayor. Then the pied piper went to the street, drew out a pipe from his pocket and began to play on pipe. Soon the rats came out tumbling from every house in Hamelin. There were thousands of rats that followed him. He went down to the bank of the river Weser and waded into the river. And every single rat, which followed him, was drowned. But the Mayor refused to pay the contracted amount of money. At this the pied piper got angry and played on his pipe in another tune. Hearing the strange tune the children came out and followed him. The piper disappeared behind a hill with all the children and did never come back.

Robert Bruce was a famous king. His kingdom was invaded by his enemies. He fought bravely but lost. In order to save his life, he fled away from his kingdom and took shelter in a remote cave.The king was always in a pensive mood for his unhappy condition. Once he was lying in the cave. Suddenly he saw a spider trying hard to reach the ceiling of the cave. It failed again and again but did not lose heart. At last it became successful after many unsuccessful attempts. Seeing this, the king felt inspired to regain his kingdom. He then collected his soldiers and attacked his enemies again. This time his enemies were defeated and he regained his lost kingdom.

Once upon a time there was lucky farmer in a village. He has a wonderful hen. The hen used to lay a golden egg every day. The farmer used to sell the golden eggs to the goldsmith and earned much money. Thus the farmer became solvent within short time.The farmer’s days were going on well. But his wife was a very greedy woman. She was so greedy that she could not resist her temptation to be rich overnight. She thought that there might be many eggs in the hen’s belly. Then she shared the idea with his husband. Her husband did not agree with her. He told her wife not to be so greedy. They had enough wealth to run their family well.One day the farmer went to his fields. The greedy woman got a chance. She took a sharp knife. She killed the hen. She cut the belly of the hen. But alas! There was no egg in the belly fields. She did not get any egg and lost the hen as well.In the evening, the farmer returned home. He saw his wife crying in a room. The farmer asked her wife, “What happened”. His wife told him the fact in details. His wife begged pardon from his husband. The farmer said nothing. He only utters himself, “Grasp all, lose all”.

Once upon time, a crow became very sad while thinking of his ugly colour. He always thought of becoming beautiful. But he could not find out any way to be beautiful. He always sought chance and means to become beautiful.

One day the crow got a chance. While walking through a jungle he found some feathers of a peacock. He took the opportunity of using the feathers of the peacock to fulfill his goal.  He stuck them among his own feathers. After using all the feathers, he was very delighted to see his own beauty. He looked like a beautiful peacock. He decided that he would no longer live with the ugly crows. He thought that he should live with the peacocks. Though the crow’s body turned nice, his behaviour did not change. He was not able to keep pace with the peacocks. Soon the peacocks found out that he was just a crow in the guise of a peacock. They pulled all the feathers out and drove the crow away. He returned to the crows. Unfortunately, the crows did not accept him. At last the crow realized his fault. Finally he thought himself, ‘Over ambition and pride are not good. 

There lived an honest wood-cutter in a village. His village was beside a jungle. He used to cut wood from the jungle, sell in the nearby market and bear his family expenses. He was not rich but passed his life with great happiness. One day, he was cutting wood near a pond in the jungle. At once his axe fell into the pond. The pond was very deep. The wood-cutter became very sad. He was at a loss what to do. Finding no other way, he prayed to God for help.

Then a strange incident occurred. A beautiful fairy came out of the water and asked him why he was not cutting wood. The wood-cutter described the incident in details. The fairy dived into the water and brought a silver axe. She asked him if it was his axe. The wood-cutter saw the axe and said, “No.” Then the fairy showed him another axe made of gold and asked, “Is this the axe that you lost?” The wood-cutter said, “No. The fairy showed him the lost axe with a wooden handle. The wood-cutter then said happily that it was exactly his axe. Seeing the honesty of the wood-cutter the fairy became very pleased and gave him both the gold and the silver axes along with his old iron axe. Then, the wood-cutter became rich and began to live happily. It was the reward of his honesty.

You must have heard the name of great poet Sheikh Saadi. He was a great scholar. He was very simple in his way of life. Once, the king of Persia invited the poet to his palace. The palace of the king was too far. It was impossible for anyone to reach there within one day. However, Saadi started for the king’s palace. On the way he took shelter in a rich man’s house.

The rich man underestimated him. He did not give him rich food. Saadi left the house of his host in the early morning and started for the king’s palace. The poet recited his poems at the court and enchanted all the courtiers. Sheikh Saadi put on one of the nice dresses. However, he left the palace of the king for his home. On the way, Saadi took shelter in the same house. seeing the nice dress of sadi, the rich man gave him rich food and honour.

But he did not eat the food and began to keep them in the pockets of his dress. The people of the house were astonished. They asked him about it. Sheikh Saadi said to them, “I took shelter in this house while I was going to the palace of the king. Then I was not well dressed. So you did not give me this kind of food. I think my present rich dress deserves this food. So, I am doing so.” The owner as well as the people of the house realized their fault and apologized to their host for their deeds.
